Heavy-Duty Beauty: Check Out This Retro Hauler Reimagined by CATO
At Central Arkansas Truck Outfitters, we don’t just modify trucks — we turn visions into reality. One of our latest custom builds is this head-turning 1974 Chevrolet C50 with a 2008 Chevy Express Frame, transformed from a vintage work truck into a show-ready hauler with modern capability and timeless appeal.
Our customer brought in his truck, which was just a bare frame. We had a CM Hot Shot Bed in stock that he wanted to add, customizing it completely to fit his frame.
Our fabrication guy started by putting the CM Bed on the lift and removing the existing fenders. Once that was done, he positioned the bed to take all the necessary measurements. After gathering the measurements, we went ahead and sourced all the metal needed for the build.
We had to add metal to widen the bed to fit the entire truck frame. Since the CM Hot Shot Bed was designed for a Ram Dual Rear Wheel frame, everything about this bed needed to be customized to make it work.
We decided that adding the diamond plate to the sides of the bed would really enhance the look. Our fabricator carefully measured everything once again and cut out what was necessary, ensuring the diamond plate fit perfectly over the areas the customer wanted to highlight.
The next step was painting the bed. Before that, we carefully filled in all the metal to make it smooth and visually appealing. We also installed the filler neck for the bed after this process.
The customer had a specific look in mind for this truck. We installed the fenders he provided, and I think the chrome addition was an awesome touch.
Some of the other things that we did to this truck was add Airlift Airbags, installed a B&W Tow and Stow Hitch, along with 8 Red lights with chrome bezels.
This Chevy C50 is now a powerful, road-ready hauler that blends old-school style with modern functionality. Whether it’s pulling a trailer or turning heads at a show, this truck is built to perform and impress.
